Jazbaa Movie Review

Sanjay Gupta’s fine direction mixed with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Irrfan Khan’s power packed performance makes Jazbaa a fine choice for cine goers. Jazbaa, an urdu word means determination. This movie shows the determination of a criminal lawyer who plays the lead role in the movie.

Jazbaa is a remake of the South Korean film, seven days.  Jazbaa also means one’s passion. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays a protagonist criminal lawyer who never spare a criminal from getting away from the claws of the law.

Irfan Khan plays a police inspector.

Anuradha Verma, a divorced criminal lawyer has never lost a criminal case; she has name and fame due to her capability as a criminal lawyer. As a woman she is strong-willed, sharp like a razor and as kind as a mother. She loves justice and she knows how to put criminals to the justice system.

Sanjay Gupta who had successfully experimented with remakes of foreign movies knew the importance of background sound tracks, pace of the narrative. He implemented the same in Jazbaa. Jazbaa as a movie moves fast, its pace makes it more powerful.

Jazbaa is not based on a very complex story rather it’s simple and realistic storyline gives a chance to the audience to relate it with the crime headlines they might have come across in newspapers or news channels.

To play such a challenging role after 5 years of hiatus Aishwarya Rai Bachchan must have given a lot of hard work and commitment for sure. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of an acclaimed film actress having worldwide repute.

Anuradha Verma’s world literally turned upside down when she was forced to take the case of Chandan, a rape and murder accused. She had no other option as her only weakness, her pre-teen daughter was kidnapped and the kidnapper wants her to fight chandan’s case and free him from the rape and murder charges. Aishwarya broke down as she can’t take any chance with her only sweetheart.

Now comes Irfan Khan, a suspended police officer who was in love with her. Irfan who plays a supporting role in the movie is the male lead. He helps him in her mission.

Shabana Azmi plays the victim’s mother. Aishwarya and Irfan met Shabana to know about details of the crime committed against her daughter. The narration of what happened to her daughter makes Aishwarya tormented from the core. Even though she knew about the brutality done against Shabana Azmi’s daughter she felt helpless as a mother. She was put into a dilemma to choose between right and wrong. If she would choose the right then she might not see her own daughter alive.

Aishwarya brilliantly acted to do justice to a power role as a protagonist. Jazbaa has Jackie Shroff as a politician while Siddhant Kapoor as his drug-addict son. With all the power struggle and mental dilemma faced by the film’s protagonists Jazbaa moves towards its tense climax.
