Sole convict of Mumbai Bomb Blast Yakub memon hanged

It is very sad that people not only in India but also across the globe are fascinated by the stories of Crime Masters, criminal minded people and their stories touch the headlines. They become glorified. Take an example of Dawood Ibrahim who was directly responsible behind so many deaths that took place in Mumbai serial bomb blast in 1993. One of his ally’s yakub memon who was hanged till death today on 30th July 2015 was no less treated as a martyr. Thousands of people gathered to mourn and number of high-profile people went in favour of his mercy petition.

Salman Khan dragged himself into controversy when he tweeted saying Yakub was innocent and instead Tiger Memon should be hanged. Yakub Memon was the only person who got death penalty in connection to Mumbai Serial blast where more 257 people died and 700 plus injured. It took 22 years to do the justice. There were 100 plus people arrested in connection to the Mumbai bomb blast and a 10,000 page charge sheet were filed by the police.

Yakub had a belief that his mercy petition in Supreme Court could have saved his life but Supreme Court has rejected the mercy plea and gave consent to death penalty. Yakub was angry over the court’s verdict and said court has termed an innocent as terrorist. Yakub categorically denied from the beginning that he had no links to the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast while all evidence proved that Yakub had prior knowledge of the bomb blast, he was equally involved in the conspiracy by helping trained terrorists by aiding them and helping them to flee from the country. He himself had fled before the bomb last took place.

30,000 policemen were deployed around the marine lines Graveyard just to ensure a riot shall not break out, there were thousands people to see funeral rites. Looking at the public mourning one may think how popular yakub was. Yakub memon was hanged on his 53rd birthday.
